Description

A description by Gertrude Carraway reads:
"Adapting to the modern trend towards living and working on wheels to politicking on wheels, Charles L. Abernethy, Jr., of New Bern, has equipped a traveling headquarters in a mammoth trailer for his campaign for Congress against Representative Graham A. Barden, of New Bern, who defeated him two years ago and his father, Congressman C. L. Abernethy, four years ago. In the trailer is victrola equipment that plays musical selections so loudly that they can be heard for blocks, drawing crowds before the candidate begins his political speeches. During the last campaign, Mr. Abernethy, a unique campaigner, made more religious addresses than the political speeches, giving lectures on the Holy Land at scores of churches throughout the third district."
