About

The Craven County Digital History Exhibit began as a joint project between the Craven-Pamlico Regional Library, the New Bern-Craven County Public Library, and Tryon Palace Historic Sites.

The exhibit currently contains images of and detailed information on North Carolina currency and maps, as well as images and texts of books and pamphlets about Eastern North Carolina's history and businesses.

Many of the currency and maps are from the collections of Tryon Palace Historic Sites, while the books are from the Kellenberger Room of the New Bern-Craven County Public Library and the Library at Tryon Palace. To round out the collection, some items from the New Bern Historical Society were added to the Digital History Exhibit.

With the transformation to the Omeka-powered website, other items have been added to the collection including Oral Histories, more photograph collections, and more "Books, Pamphlets, and Ephemera."

We believe providing access to Eastern North Carolina’s historical record is important for teaching, learning, research, and social change. You may encounter terms or images that are hurtful to you or set off strong emotional responses. We share this message because we care about your experience on the site and want to strike a balance between transparency, access, and inclusivity for our users.
