Description

Photographed here is Tom Haywood proudly presenting his self-kicking machine at the Croatan Forest, ten miles east of New Bern. Tom Haywood's "Purpose of Origination and Organization" pamphlet states: "I am one of those Americans who has said, hundreds of times, 'That I could kick myself,' for things that I had done or had not done." With that statement, Tom Haywood invented the self-kicking machine July 15, 1937. Though it was originally invented for private use, the machine appeared on the news throughout the United States just a couple weeks later.
