Image of a cornfield near Goldsboro, N.C., which was the site of the Battle for Goldsboro. A description of the photographs by Reed states, "Field on which the Battle of Goldsboro' was fought, Dec. 17, 1862.--Taken from about the position occupied by Lee's Brigade and the New York Artillery, at the time that the Confederate troops charged upon them. In the centre is the Wilmington and Weldon Railroad bridge over the Neuse River, the railroad embankment extending to the left. The bridge is of the same style as the one destroyed by the Union forces. The background of trees line the banks of the river."
