Description
Five pound Treasury note issued by North Carolina with broad border on left edge and narrow border on the bottom of the note. Printed inscription: “North Carolina./ This BILL intitles [sic] the Bearer hereof to/FIVE POUNDS Proclamation Money, to/ be paid out of the Public Treasury, with 6 per/ Cent. Interest, from the Date hereof, to the/ Tenth Day of December next, in Pursuance/ of an Act of the General Assembly, in such/ Case made and provided./ Dated this 12th Day of feby 1758/ £ 5/ To be accepted in /Payment of Taxes. Pub. Trea. Underlined portions in ink (faded). In ink above main text “offered may the 5th 1763.” Illegible serial number in ink in upper right corner. Signed in ink on obverse: “J Sharkey” and “T Baker.”Several layers of ink inscriptions on the reverse: “from William Sawrey (?) Sen./ To James Adaci,” “from ______ _____/ to Robert dixson,” “AW to __,” and “ from Cornl John _____ to George Lordbery.” Bill folded in half.
