Description

Engraved one pound Debenture Bill issued by North Carolina. Printed from engraved copper plate with scroll leafage border on left edge and circular vignette of bear representing the constellation Ursa Minor on lower left corner. Inscribed: “20s, ONE POUND -- No 7007/ The Province of North carolina is/ indebted to the Possessor hereof One/ Pound proc. Money to be paid out/ of the Public Treasury according to/ Act of Assembly passed/ Decbr 1771” Ink signatures on obverse: “Rd Caswell,” “Lewis De Rosset” / “J Rutherfurd” and “John Harvey.” Bill has no inscriptions on the reverse. Bill has never been folded.
