Engraved twenty-five shillings & eight pence note issued by North Carolina. Printed from engraved copper plate with scrolled border on left edge and The Holy Bible in a circle on lower left corner. Printed inscription: “North Carolina./ xxvls viii d Twenty Six / Shillings & Eight Pence/ Proclamation Money according to Act of / Assembly pass’d ye 9th of March 1754.” Bill is numbered in ink in upper right corner: “2986.” Signed in ink on obverse: “Jn Swann,” “Lewis De Rosset”/ “John Starkey” and “Sam Swann.” In ink on reverse: “Mr McAlester” “John Hill/ 10:13:3/to D. K./ 0 49” “Ephram Lana/ to/ 12.N.5” and other illegible signatures. Bill folded in half.
