Engraved twenty-shilling note issued by North Carolina. Printed from engraved copper plate with scrolled leaf border on left edge and crown in a circle on lower left corner. Printed inscription: “North Carolina./ xx s. Twenty Shillings/ Proclamation Money according to Act of / Assembly pass’d ye 9th of March 1754.” Bill is numbered in ink in upper right corner: “1485.” Signed in ink on obverse: “John Starkey,” “Sam Swann”/ “Jno Swann” and (faintly) “Lewis De Rosset.” In ink on reverse: “R:O:MK.” Bill folded in half.
