Description
Engraved eight-pence note issued by North Carolina. Printed from engraved copper plate with leaf and shell border on left edge and butterfly in a circle on lower left corner. Printed inscription: “ North Carolina/ viii d Eight Pence./ Proclamation Money according to Act of/ Assembly pass’d ye 9th of Mach 175[4].” Serial number is torn off the bill. Signed (faintly) in ink on obverse: “Lewis De Rosset,” “John Starkey,”/ Sam[uel] Swann” and [John Swann]. The bill was folded in quarters.
