To Martha S. DeGraffenreidt from her Affectionate Brother
Fayetteville 29th May 1822
---
Should home forsake you; Friends, and all beside
Seek here my Sister for a heavenly guide;
Should Fortune frown, oh! Turn this ample page
And seek Him here, who can all griefs assuage,
All sorrows Cure, all human ills dispel.
He is the living spring, the everlasting well.

[p. 2]
Friendship! Mysterious cement of the soul
Sw--- of Life and soldier of Society
Love thee much
