Jasper High School

These are a collection of yearbooks from 1952 to 1960 for Jasper School located in the West Craven area. The earliest article found in the North Carolina Newspaper Archive is from 1895, showing that this school may have been around even earlier in the nineteenth century. (1) Jasper School was stated to be "making progress" in 1915 going into the twentieth century showing that a good amount of students were making the honor roll that year. (2) Jasper High School housed many successful graduates and was active in athletics during the fifties and sixties. (4) Due to the western Craven area being a broad coverage of towns and New Bern consolidating their part of Craven County, Jasper School began to be absorbed into West Craven High School in 1971. (5) On November 10, 1988, West Craven Highlights announced that Jasper Elementary School was absorbed completely by James W. Smith Elementary, officially closing Jasper School.(3)
